Squad members have been selected from the 83 second-year under-16s currently registered with clubs and Jouanny is confident he will have five games for them to play in the coming months.Jouanny said: ‘The purpose is to continue to develop the players.
The reason this group has been put together is because they are out of the Star Trophy age group and just a bit young for Jon Welsh’s under-18 squad.’Everyone will train regularly on Saturday mornings and a couple of weeks before each game the squad will be reduced to 18.
After the game the squad will return to 24 again and reduced again a couple of weeks before the next game.’We want the players to continue to raise the standard of their games.
If they can put into practise what we will teach them then that will be brilliant and everyone will win.’This exercise also gives the players the opportunity of wearing the red shirt of Jersey with pride and although we’ll be working with 24 it is not a closed shop and others may be added from time to time.’The U16s’ first game will be against First Tower U18s, under floodlights at St Ouen on Friday 19 December. The ‘working squad’ is, goalkeepers: Matthew Addison (St Clement), David Clarke (Sporting Academics), Dan Fleming (St Brelade), Luke Bechelet (Rozel Rovers.
Defenders: John Felton, Tom Wherry and Daniel Lundy (all St Paul’s), Sean Kenny, Ben Bechelet and Richard Blackburn (Sporting Academics), Anthony Norman and Sam Poignand (Rozel Rovers).
Midfielders: Jack McKenna (Jsy Wanderers), Stewart Daynes (St Clement), Jeff Sa (Rozel Rovers), Sean Cairns (St Brelade), Ben Gallichan and Sean Doran (Sporting Academics), Jonathon Lee and Keiran Norman (St Paul’s).
