JOURNALIST Nick Wallis will be visiting Jersey later this month as the latest guest of the Jersey Ladies Literary Luncheon Club.
The award-winning British broadcaster is known for his groundbreaking coverage of the British Post Office scandal, a story which he has been covering since 2011, and which he detailed in his book, The Great Post Office Scandal.
In addition, Nick – who has also written extensively about the Depp v Heard defamation trial – acted as a consultant on the ITV series Mr Bates vs the Post Office in 2024 and currently presents the BBC Sounds/Radio 4 series The Great Post Office Trial.
Held on Monday 13 October, the talk will take place at the L’Horizon Hotel in St Brelade’s Bay, which is the venue for all Jersey Ladies Literary Luncheon Club lunches, and will see Nick discussing his life, work and career in journalism.
Other noteworthy guests lined up to speak at the JLLLC lunches over the coming months include historian and award-winning producer Philippa Langley (Monday 10 November), who is best known for her discovery of the remains of Richard III in 2012 – beneath a car park in Leicester!
And 2026 will see Jennie Bond travelling to the Island for a talk on Monday 9 March. The journalist and TV presenter was the BBC’s Royal correspondent during 14 of the most turbulent years the British monarchy has ever endured, with Jennie having covered adultery, divorces, scandals, romances, marriages (William and Kate, Harry and Meghan), the death of Queen Elizabeth and the coronation of King Charles.
Other JLLLC talks will include “From Frankenstein to Fertility Contests: Writing about Women of Grit and Genius” by Caroline Lea, who is a highly successful writer and novelist (Monday 9 February), and “Lest We Forget – War and Peace in 100 British Monuments” by Dr Tessa Dunlop, who is a broadcaster and acclaimed public speaker with special interests in modern history, Romania and rural affairs, and who has presented history programmes for, among others, Discovery, the History Channel, BBC 2, Channel 5 and Living TV (Monday 8 December).
Discussing the roster of guests lined up for the following six months, JLLLC secretary Mary Young said: “The Jersey Ladies Literary Luncheon Club was founded over 65 years ago. The role of women was very different then, but, despite our rather retro name, the club has moved with the times and the topics covered by its speakers are aimed very much at today’s women.
“And each monthly gathering promises not only an engaging speaker but also a convivial lunch in a welcoming atmosphere.”
The JLLLC operates during the winter months from October to March, with meetings held on the second Monday of each month, and lunch served from 12.30pm (meetings conclude at around 3pm).
Membership to the JLLLC is £70 per year, with the two-course lunch served at each meeting costing £30 with a choice of dishes, including a vegetarian option.
