IN the UK last year, over 140 people were killed in workplace accidents – 38 of these fatalities affecting workers in the construction industry.

Recognising the risks associated with this industry, Prestige Safety Training was born to provide ‘no-nonsense’ health and safety training on construction equipment.

An accredited National Plant and Operators Registration Scheme training provider, the business is the brainchild of Stephen Hobbs, who has over 25 years’ experience in the construction and utilities industry.

‘I am passionate about promoting the importance of health and safety, and helping local businesses to achieve safe workplaces,’ he said. ‘Our courses are also great for people who are self-employed, or looking for a career change, to enhance their employment prospects. We deliver all our courses in a social, engaging and fun way while giving employers and employees information about the law and sage working practices.’

The company’s training programmes have been developed to:

• Ensure employers and employees are not injured or made ill by their work.

• Develop a positive health and safety culture, where working safely becomes second nature.

• Find out how employers can better manage health and safety.

• Help employers meet their legal duty to protect employees’ health and wellbeing.

From half-day to three-day courses, Prestige Safety Training runs sessions on topics ranging from manual handling and asbestos awareness to forklifts and excavators.

As well as being an accredited NPORS trainer, Mr Hobbs is also PTLLLS-trained and holds an IOSH managing safety certificate. He has also completed the IATP instructors’ course, covering asbestos awareness, and holds NEBOSH GC2 and GC3 qualifications.
