A NEW freight company which says it will provide Island businesses and individuals with a quicker and more cost-effective service for goods dispatched from the UK has begun trading.
We Deliver CI Ltd aims to greatly reduce the length of time that it currently takes for packages and other items of freight ordered from UK firms to reach Jersey. The company will ensure that any item delivered to its Poole warehouse by a Thursday will be delivered to a customer’s door within one week.
The company’s launch comes at a critical time for Islanders as new reports show that they are having to cope with the effects of rising costs on freight imports in their daily lives.
‘Based on our market research, goods can be held up in UK and Jersey warehouses for many weeks – and this can be even longer during busy times such as the Christmas period,’ said We Deliver freight manager Jonathan Le Blancq. ‘Given that over 95% of everything that is consumed in Jersey is imported from the UK, we believe that customers deserve a more efficient and cost-effective service.
‘As an island, the efficiency and resilience of the supply chain is critically important to us. With a focus on efficiencies, we will aim to play our part in reducing delivery times.’
Mr Le Blancq added that there was no limit to the size of freight that the company was able to handle, with an experienced team on hand equipped with the necessary skills to transport dangerous goods and fragile items. This includes everything from commercial pallets to personal items from suppliers such as Amazon, Next and IKEA.
‘Customers have the ease of being able to obtain instant quotes on our website,’ said Mr Le Blancq, ‘and our aim is to be competitive from both a cost and time perspective. Our whole ethos is to make shipping easy. In support of this objective, we have received assistance and support from Jersey Business and the Ports of Jersey.
‘This new venture also goes some way to responding to the conclusion in last year’s JCRA report outlining the fact that competition in the freight industry could be more effective.’
We Deliver will also arrange delivery to Jersey of any items from Europe and, indeed, worldwide. The company has significant growth expectations with plans already in progress to expand these other key routes.
‘With the cost-of-living crisis likely to remain as a feature for the foreseeable future, we are aiming to create a more competitive freight environment which will benefit businesses and individuals in the Island,’ said Mr Le Blancq.
