ISLANDERS can get free blood pressure checks and learn more about stroke prevention and recovery at an event bringing together 21 local organisations this Thursday.

Jersey Library will host the ‘Connect Me’ event from 11am to 2.30pm to mark World Stroke Day, which raises awareness of stroke prevention, emergency symptoms and recovery.

Local charities, healthcare providers and government services will offer advice and answer questions on topics ranging from neurological conditions and employment to quitting smoking.

A panel featuring the Health Minister, healthcare professionals and people who have lived through a stroke will also take questions from attendees.

The Q&A session, running from 1pm to 2pm, will cover prevention, recovery and life after a stroke.

Places for the Q&A are limited and can be reserved through Eventbrite by searching for ‘World Stroke Day – Q&A panel’, organised by the Government of Jersey.

The free event is open to everyone, including people who have had a stroke, their families and carers, and anyone interested in learning more about prevention.

World Stroke Day is marked annually on 29 October.
