A FOOTBALL tournament held on the weekend pitted businesses against each other in aid of a local charity.
Eight teams competed in the Football for Futures tournament on Sunday 20 September for Brighter Futures.
Teams from from Standard Bank, Hawksford, GSC, Geomarine, Summit, PwC, All Island Media and The Royal Yacht each paid a £500 entrance fee – raising £4,000 for the charity.
Judith Hanson, trusts and grants manager at Brighter Futures, said the morning was “fantastic”, adding: “We’re incredibly grateful to all eight teams who took part, as well as everyone who volunteered, supported, and helped make the tournament possible.”
The All Island Media team – the parent company of the Jersey Evening Post and Bailiwick Express – came out on top. The team – comprising Carl Walker, Gavin Cadwallader, Luke Heynes, Ciaran Hocking, Elliot Corbel, Nathan MacDonald and Alex Spencer – edged out PwC in the final, beating them 1-0 to take the trophy.
Brighter Futures is a charity that supports parent, children, carers and young people in Jersey. It offers personal development, educational opportunities, one-to-one mentoring and practical help to those who need it most.
Ms Hanson said: “Raising vital funds is a fantastic result for Brighter Futures. As a charity, we rely heavily on fundraising and the generosity of our community to continue providing our free programmes and one-to-one support. Every pound raised helps us to continue to work alongside parents, carers, children and young people, helping to build stronger relationships, improve wellbeing and cerate brighter futures.”
Anyone can access Brighter Futures services. It is based at The Bridge in St Helier where people can self-refer or get a referral by a professional who knows them.
