YOUNG people aged between 14- and 19-years-old are being encouraged to get involved in political issues that affect them.
The Jersey Youth Assembly, which enables students to engage directly with States Members to raise the issues that matter most to them, is seeking new members after the start of the new school term.
Pip Oliver, education manager at the States Greffe, said: “Since the launch of the JYA last year, we’ve been impressed with the number of young people who have immersed themselves in the activities on offer.
“The JYA is a brilliant chance to have your voice heard by Jersey’s decision-makers and we’d love to see lots of new faces at the first session of this school year for a taster of what you can do if you take part.”
Last year, members of the JYA suggested and decided its areas of focus, interviewed Jersey’s Chief Minister, asked ministers questions that matter to young people and were represented in the UK Parliament to give a speech in the House of Commons.
A taster session and meeting is being held at the States Chamber on Tuesday 22 September from 4pm to 5.30pm, which will give prospective members an idea of what they can expect and a chance to meet new and returning members.
Mrs Oliver added: “As a flexible initiative, members are in control of how much involvement they have so it fits with their studies and other commitments.”
