A YEAR 5 teacher at Victoria College Preparatory School who is the subject lead for computing and IT has been nominated for Teacher of the Year.
Michael Delahunty has been described as “a wonderful champion” for his anonymous nominator’s son, who has an ADHD diagnosis.
They said that Mr Delahunty’s “support, understanding and advocacy” had allowed this student to thrive and become an integral part of the school community.
The nominator added that Mr Delahunty’s support had been a catalyst for their son having prospered and becoming accepted since joining Victoria College Prep.
Mr Delahunty communicates with parents when necessary, providing notice if there will be different formats or activities for the following school day.
The nominator said that Mr Delahunty had altered his teaching and lesson planning to ensure that all students learn and participate effectively, despite having additional needs.
“If Mr Delahunty, could teach so many other neurodiverse children, I am sure they would have similar positive experiences at school. He has been fantastic,” they said.
