Nominated by: Kyah Gibaut
THE lead of a critical health service has been nominated for the Ambassador of the Year award for being a “cornerstone” in the support available for young people in Jersey.
Steve Le Long, who leads the Young Persons Substance Misuse Support Team as part of the Alcohol and Drug service, has been nominated for the award by Kyah Gibaut for helping to make it easier for “young people to reach out, feel heard, and access the right support”.
Ms Gibaut explained that a couple of years ago, Mr Le Long set up the Peer Mentor Support Group – which brings young people together who have been through the service, so they can stay in touch and connect with a “positive network”.
She said: “Steve has built a reputation for being consistently calm, kind, and genuinely empathetic. He brings a very human approach, he listens properly, meets people where they are, and treats every young person with respect and patience”.
She added that his impact on the community “can’t be underestimated” and that he has helped the lives of “hundreds of young people”.
