A MARITIME enforcement operation targeting private vessels arriving in the Island saw UK Border Security Command personnel work alongside officers from the Jersey Customs and Immigration Service.
The operation, which was conducted last weekend, was supported by HMC Vigilant – one of the cutters in the UK Border Force fleet.
Jersey’s fisheries protection vessel, Norman Le Brocq, was also deployed.
The operation involved the examination of a number of motor and sailing vessels entering the Island’s waters.
JCIS has stated that no offences were detected, with only “minor infringements” of customs and immigration requirements identified.
“The operation also provided valuable training and operational experience for JCIS officers, strengthening their ability to control the movement of private vessels in Jersey waters,” the service added.
JCIS head Rhiannon Small said: “Effective customs and immigration controls are essential to protecting Jersey’s borders.”
She continued: “While this operation identified a high level of compliance, JCIS remains vigilant to the risks posed by the movement of illicit goods and individuals seeking to evade border controls.
“Working closely with our local and UK partners, we will continue to take robust action to detect, deter and disrupt unlawful activity, demonstrating our shared commitment to keeping Jersey’s borders safe, secure and well protected.”
