RECRUITMENT is under way for one of Jersey’s most ancient and varied senior legal roles, spanning everything from inquests and juries to bankruptcies and the seizure of assets.
Advocate Matt Berry, who has been Deputy Viscount since September 2024, is due to become Director of the Civil Division of the Law Officers Department.
The Deputy Viscount is an experienced Jersey lawyer in a department that handles a variety of functions, from inquests and juries to enforcement.
Though the Deputy Viscount regularly sits as coroner, Viscount Advocate Mark Harris said he anticipated a shift back towards covering the full range of work.
Advocate Berry said the Deputy Viscount would enjoy “a diverse judicial role, with a rich history and some truly novel aspects”.
More information about the role can be found on jerseylawsociety.je. Applications close on 14 September.
