A 52-YEAR-OLD man has admitted spitting at two police officers who found him in his flat “covered in blood” with a suspected head injury.
Almas Uddin pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting a police officer when he recently appeared in the Magistrate’s Court via video link from HMP La Moye.
Legal adviser Kerry Grieve, prosecuting, said officers had gone to Uddin’s flat in St Helier on Saturday 8 August following a noise complaint.
The court heard that Uddin appeared to have suffered a head injury and was “covered in blood”. He became aggressive as the police officers tried to assist him.
Uddin admitted spitting at an officer but denied kneeing him in the groin or headbutting him in the shoulder.
“I just tried to get them off me,” he told the court.
Advocate Adam Harrison, defending, said the guilty plea to the first assault charge was therefore entered on a limited basis.
Uddin had previously pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on Tuesday 10 March.
A separate charge of being drunk and disorderly on Saturday 1 August, to which he had pleaded not guilty, was dismissed.
Magistrate Bridget Shaw, presiding, remanded Uddin in custody until his sentencing next month.
She warned him that a custodial sentence was likely, adding that there was evidence to suggest he could commit another offence if released on bail.
