THE final two acts to take to the stage for next month’s Weekender Festival have been announced.
The Saturday is set to be an 80s-themed party, with the organisers teaming up with Let’s Rock – which has been putting on family-friendly retro events celebrating the decade’s music and culture across the UK since 2009.
The new additions to the bill include The Christians, known for hits including Ideal World, Harvest for the World, and Forgotten Town. Local favourites The Jersey Bounce are set to complete the line-up with their 13-piece band.
Weekender Presents: Let’s Rock will take place on Saturday 12 September at the People’s Park and is also due to feature performances from Bros frontman Matt Goss, former Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley, synth-pop pioneer Nik Kershaw and Scottish soul duo Hue and Cry.
Warren Le Sueur, festival organiser, said: “We are thrilled to complete our Saturday main stage lineup with two fantastic additions.
“The Christians bring serious 80s soul heritage and timeless hits, while local legends The Jersey Bounce will guarantee the crowd is dancing early.
“Partnering with Let’s Rock for Saturday has allowed us to assemble a stellar collection of retro vocalists and bands. Saturday is set to be a massive celebration in the People’s Park.”
The day before, Blur bassist Alex James will be bringing his Britpop Classical show to the Park. The project, which has proved popular on festival stages across the UK this summer, features the biggest hits of the Britpop era – including Oasis, Pulp and Mr James’s Blur -performed by a full 38-piece orchestra.
