Nominated by: Mike Haden
AN Islander who has spent more than 16 years “tirelessly” raising money for a charity supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable children in Rwanda has been nominated for Volunteer/Fundraiser of the Year.
Dennis Spencer was nominated by Hands Around the World Jersey trustee Mike Haden in recognition of his long-standing work for the charity.
Having previously organised volunteers, Mr Spencer has spent the past five years running its charity shop.
He works there for six hours, five days a week, sorting donations and organising the shop to help raise money for projects in Rwanda.
Mr Haden said Mr Spencer had worked “tirelessly” for the charity.
Alongside his work in the shop, Mr Spencer organises a successful Christmas-themed quiz night every November and is described as the “backbone of the Great North Coast Charity Challenge”.
Mr Haden added: “With the support of Jersey Overseas Aid, HATWJ has helped to transform teaching conditions in nine schools. Dennis’s fundraising is an essential part of the JOA grant.”
