WORK is due to begin on installing a new radar system at Jersey Airport as part of a wider programme to modernise the Island’s air traffic infrastructure.

The project forms part of Ports of Jersey’s ongoing investment in critical airport and airspace systems and is one element of a broader programme to maintain and upgrade the surveillance network supporting air traffic services across the Channel Islands.
Head of airport operations Keith Attwood said the Channel Islands relied on “a resilient network of radar systems”, with radar sites in Jersey supported by complementary infrastructure in Guernsey.
The radar at Jersey Airport is the most visible part of that network, and this project will replace the existing airfield system to strengthen Jersey’s surveillance capability,” he said.
“We are pleased to have reached this stage of the project and to see installation work begin, with completion expected by summer 2027.”
Ports of Jersey said the investment would help ensure the Island’s surveillance infrastructure remained “supportable, reliable and fit for the future”, strengthening the systems that underpin air traffic services across the Channel Islands.
