Nominated by: Marie Claire Hannigan
A YEAR 2 teacher at Jersey College Preparatory School has been nominated for the Teacher of the Year award for “inspiring children to care for the environment”.
Andrea Christopher has been nominated for her work with the JCP School Eco Team, where “she encourages pupils to become responsible citizens”. This has been demonstrated by her leading initiatives such as daily litter picking, beach cleans and working with local environmental groups like the Jersey Fairtrade Group.
Her nominator, Marie Claire Hannigan, added that the school had won many environmental awards in large part to Mrs Christopher’s work, including Young Conservationists at the Jersey Conservation Awards, the Jocobarca Award for “Best Vegetable Area” in the RJA&HS Primary School Garden Competition and maintaining the school’s status as a Green Flag-accredited school.
Miss Hannigan’s daughter, Sophia added: “Mrs Christopher taught me to love and respect our beautiful island.
“She is kind and caring and makes Eco Team fun, encouraging us to make friends across all year groups and work as a team to improve our school and local environment.”
