LANES behind the Motor Mall leading to and from Vallée des Vaux will be temporarily reversed to allow traffic heading south down St John’s Main Road divert around major roadworks.
Yesterday, the St Helier Roads Committee, which has responsibility for Fredée Lane and Rue des Côtils, agreed to a request from the government’s Infrastructure department to reverse the flow for four months to make it easier for residents and people accessing properties and businesses in the area to drive towards town.
This is while the ongoing phased drainage upgrades along Grande Route de St Jean reach the section of main road between the two lanes.
Drivers – excluding those in HGVs – will be able to drive down Fredée Lane to Vallée des Vaux and up Rue des Côtils to rejoin the main road on their southbound journey.
At its monthly meeting for July, the St Helier Roads Committee, chaired by new parish Constable Inna Gardiner, agreed to allow the reversal – subject to assurances that refuse trucks could negotiate the roadworks.
The committee also heard that the two lanes’ junctions with St John’s Main Road would be closed for around two weeks as the roadworks reached each one. During this period – either side of the direction reversal – the lanes will only be accessible to people living in them.
The main southbound diversion via Trinity Hill will remain in place.
The lane reversal is due to come into force imminently.
