A TEACHER who shows “unwavering compassion” towards students and is credited as the reason many have “discovered a love of science, transforming biology from a subject into a lifelong passion” has been nominated for a Pride of Jersey award.
Danielle Jones is head of biology at Beaulieu Convent School and many “students write to tell her she is the best teacher they have ever had”, according to her nominator, Nick Jones. This, he said, is due to Mrs Jones going above and beyond her typical classroom duties by creating exciting STEM extra-curricular activities.
Such activities include science fairs, biology spelling bees and a new Flying Club in which a pilot gives students weekly lessons about aviation.
“For Danielle, teaching has never been just about academic results,” Mr Jones said. “It is about believing in every child, nurturing their potential and inspiring them to become the very best version of themselves.”
She also the head of Year 7, which has seen her help “anxious” secondary school newcomers “become confident, resilient young people who know they belong”.
