Jersey swept aside Switzerland by 9 wickets in their opening game of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Sub Regional Qualifier A in Cyprus.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Swiss made a decent start by taking 13 fro Julius Sumerauer’s first over, but there was little else to write home about.
Sumerauer fought back well to finish with 4 for 21, while leg spinners Ben Ward (3 for 10) and Dom Blampied (1 for 9) were superb from their respective 4 over spells in the middle overs.

Switzerland were eventually skittled out for just 73 in 16.5 overs.
In reply, Jersey lost Harrison Carlyon in the first over, chipping a miss-timed drive to a nice running catch from mid-off.

Nick Greenwood (left) joined Patrick Gouge in the middle and the pair looked a class above from then on. Without barely breaking a sweat, the pair latched onto anything slightly off line to end the 6 over powerplay 61 for 1.
They inevitably strolled to the finish line in just 7.1 overs, Gouge finishing unbeaten on 33 from 19 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six, and Greenwood on 34 from 21 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
The commanding opening victory will give them a very healthy net run rate boost as they begin their first step of the 2028 T20 World Cup qualification process on the right foot.
Jersey’s next game takes place tomorrow (May 17) against hosts Cyprus at 8.30am (BST). All games are available to watch live on the ICC.tv website and app.
