JERSEY RFC Vets failed to follow up on last year’s title win on home soil, as Guernsey Vets thumped their Caesarean counterparts 61-17.

The odds were in the Sarnians’ favour heading into the contest, and they didn’t hesitate to showcase themselves as favourites early on, pouncing on the kickoff to apply pressure early.

However, the visiting Jerseymen showed they weren’t to be underestimated, as barely anything separated the sides in the opening 20 minutes, with a scoreline of 19-12 seeing the hosts just edge ahead.

Jersey just couldn’t keep up with the intensity though, as Guernsey overwhelmed the visitors with their pace, power and match fitness to score six straight tries unanswered – making it 61-12.

They may have fallen well behind, but Jersey never wavered in spirit. In the game’s dying embers, game-day recruit Luke Stratford – who certainly shone bright as one of Jersey’s stand-out performers – smashed his way over the line to give them that consolation, making the full-time score 61-17 to Guernsey.
