MORE funding is now available to eligible businesses seeking support with training costs through the Better Business Skills Grant.

The initiative was first made available last year under the government’s £20m Better Business Support Package, aimed at helping employers manage the transition to a living wage.

More than £5m was allocated to the grant scheme in both 2025 and 2026, to support businesses with a wide range of training – including the development of leadership, management, professional and technical skills.

Last year, 54 local businesses received Skills Grants totalling £311,210.

Previously it had operated on a 50/50 funding model, but eligible businesses are now able to claim up to 80% of training costs for applications made in 2026.

The change also automatically applies to any businesses that have already submitted a Skills Grant application for this year.

Jennie Smith, head of business support at Jersey Business, said: “Skills are critical to productivity and long-term business success.”

She added: “Increasing the level of support available through the Skills Grant makes it easier for businesses to invest in their people and build the capability they need to grow.”

Organisations can apply for up to two Skills Grants per year.
