NO prisoners have been released from La Moye Prison in error over the last decade, it has been confirmed.

The figures were revealed in response to a freedom-of-information request, which confirmed that there have been no instances of prisoners being released from custody in error from La Moye Prison since 2015.

A Justice and Home Affairs Department spokesperson said: “This consistent record reflects the effectiveness of the prison’s release procedures.

“Each release undergoes a verification process across four separate departments, with photo identification and documentation checks at every stage.

“These measures ensure accuracy and compliance with operational standards.”

It comes amid concerns over the number of accidental releases in the UK.

UK Justice Secretary David Lammy recently confirmed that have been 103 accidental releases in England and Wales this since 1 April 2025.

He revealed the figures after sex offender Brahim Kaddour-Cherif and fraudster Billy Smith were freed in error from HMP Wandsworth. Smith handed himself in and police caught Kaddour-Cherif a week after his release.

Days before that, Hadush Kebatu was mistakenly freed from HMP Chelmsford despite his conviction for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman.

This triggered a three-day manhunt across London before he was eventually re-arrested and forcibly deported.
