CRIMINAL justice researchers and frontline practitioners from Latvia are due to visit Jersey this week as part of an international partnership focused on offender rehabilitation.
The Jersey Probation and After-Care Service is hosting a high-level delegation from the Latvian Probation Service.
The visiting team has travelled to Jersey to gain first-hand insight into the Island’s approach to working with offenders.
It follows previous trips by Jersey staff to Latvia, where they shared expertise on managing risk and supporting staff in high-pressure roles.
Throughout the week, the two services will take part in joint training sessions, workshops, and strategic discussions.
Chief probation officer Mike Cutland said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with our Latvian colleagues.
“As a service we strive to learn from our European neighbours in the Confederation of European Probation and it is heartening to see that the skill, commitment and outcomes achieved by the local team has caught the attention of other services.
“Our work can make a positive contribution to the safety of our island, so it is imperative we remain at the cutting edge of best practice and continue to develop the service.”
