OVER 50 students from around the world were in Jersey this week to take part in a female leadership programme that has involved meeting Jersey cows, a hula-hoop lesson, a silent disco walk, a visit to an organic farm, and a song-writing challenge.
Local and international students have been battling it out for the chance to secure funding to make their entrepreneurial project a reality as part of the Jersey College Foundation’s LEAP programme.
The annual scheme aims to empower young women from around the world to explore leadership, enterprise, and personal growth.
This year’s cohort of students is made up of 26 young Islanders and 26 from around the world – including China, Japan, Taiwan, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.
The programme, which took place from Thursday 10 until Thursday 17 July at the Radisson Hotel, sees participants aged between 14 and 18 work together in teams to create and pitch a project with the chance of winning funds from a real investment pot.
Gaëlle Deschamps, fundraising and leadership curriculum for LEAP, said the event has been “incredible” and “energising”.
“The energy in the room is fantastic,” she said.
“The students have become friends very rapidly and the ambiance is very collaborative, friendly, fun and supportive.”
