A SCAM video using an AI-generated voice of Jersey’s Chief Minister and a fake media article with Jersey Evening Post branding has been circulating on Facebook as part of a phishing scheme.

The video, which uses a fake news story in an attempt to encourage readers to visit a website and disclose their personal details, falsely claims that “tens of thousands of Islanders are retiring early thanks to a government-backed investment platform.”

The voice in the video claims: “With a small investment of £200, they can earn over £800 pounds a week. That’s absolutely realistic.”

It aims to assure viewers that the scheme is legitimate and “has nothing to do with pyramid schemes and other nonsense.”

The video warns that “if they close this page, they can’t come back because their link will expire, and so will their chance to profit.”

It also promises that users will be contacted by a “personal manager” once they enter their details into a website.

There have been multiple online scams in recent months that have used fake JEP news stories in an attempt to encourage people to share personal and financial information.
