The Jersey Decorative and Fine Arts Society (Jedfas) is being set up by interior design expert June Ash, and will be one of more than 300 societies affiliated to the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies, which promotes the appreciation of the fine arts through events such as educational visits, cultural holidays and monthly lectures.
The Jersey society will host three taster lectures before it is officially launched in September, the inaugural lecture being given by jewellery expert John Benjamin, known for his appearances on TV’s Antiques Roadshow.
The first of the taster lectures takes place next week with ceramics specialist Eric Knowles, also known for his appearances on the Antiques Roadshow, and his talk will be an overview of art deco and the age of jazz, the Charleston and Hollywood. It will take place on Tuesday 8 March at the Royal Yacht Hotel at 6.45 pm.
