The number of bookings for every month from March to August are above those from the same time last year, with figures for July – one of the industry’s key months – showing a three per cent increase.

Last year the industry celebrated its best summer season for seven years, with more than a quarter of a million holidaymakers travelling to the Island.

Keith Beecham, head of Visit Jersey, which is aiming to attract one million visitors a year to Jersey by 2030, said that the figures, which were taken from a random sample of 40 per cent of the Island’s hotels, were an encouraging sign for the 2016 season, and that the rise in interest was partly due to increased publicity in the national press and partly because of Jersey’s perceived safety with the world currently being quite a dangerous place.
