More than 2,400 people are now following the Channel Islands Name and Shame page – set up to highlight court cases involving sex offenders.

But a number of Islanders have used the page to post ‘inflammatory’ comments about the featured sex offenders, with some suggesting that the individuals should be tortured and killed.

In a recent posting, the administrator of the site urged users not to ‘threaten people’ and said the site was simply set up to help keep children safe. And in a statement released on Friday Detective Superintendent Stewart Gull, head of crime services at the States police, said that some of the postings could constitute a criminal offence.
