Retailing, construction and tourism have borne the brunt of the wintry conditions – sectors that were already under pressure from the downturn in business.
The president of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce, David Warr, said that retailers had been badly hit by the disruption. ‘It could hardly have come at a worst time, as it has been a hard start to the year. Rents are due at the end of the month for the quarter,’ he said.
Mr Warr said that sales in a lot of retailers had been badly hit by the heavy snow that paralysed the Island yesterday and Monday.
