Currently just nine per cent of Islanders are on the NHS Organ Donation Register – through which people in Jersey have exactly the same chance of donating and receive organs as anyone in the UK – compared to around 31 per cent in the UK.
Today, as the JEP’s series on organ donation run in conjunction with the Love Hearts Appeal for Great Ormond Street continues with the stories of two Islanders currently waiting for a transplant, Deputy Roy Le Hérissier has said that figure is far too low.
Meanwhile, Islanders are being invited to a drop-in session at the Town Hall from 5.30 pm until 8.30 pm on Thursday to learn more about organ donation and how to join the register.
