The Rev Graeme Halls, the Superintendent of the Jersey Methodist Church, has spoken out in response to the news that betting shops will open for the first time this Sunday.

A change in the Island’s gambling legislation means that from this weekend bookies can open seven days a week if they have the permission of the relevant parish.

Mr Halls said: ‘The issue for the Methodist church is always with who are the victims of this.

‘The argument is always that it will be good for business and good for trade, but who is it not good for?
