A multiple champion trainer with the Jersey Race Club, she produced over 200 winners over the years, racing at Les Landes and in the UK. Last season’s successes included the Champion Hurdle with Landolino, a horse she chose and bought on behalf of the Lavender racing syndicate.

This year she had six winners, ridden by jockey Tony Proctor, whom she brought out of retirement. She was making plans for next season, taking on horses stabled with trainer Stephen Arthur who retired this year.

Jersey Race Club secretary, Charlotte Dickson described Joan as a tremendous lady. Dickson said: ‘Joan was so committed to racing in Jersey, her horses and to making the Jersey Race Club a success.

‘She was a great support to me when I started at the club and knew nothing about racing and we quickly became friends. Everyone is very shocked and terribly saddened by the news.’
