Deputy Sean Power says there is an urgent need for homes in the Island, with the problem being highlighted by the States Statistics Unit’s publication of the Jersey Housing Assessment – a report which has also been presented to the Corporate Services Scrutiny panel.
The panel has used the paper – which found that under current trends there is likely to be a shortfall of 1,500 homes by 2015 – in its review of a proposed joint Housing and Treasury scheme to help first-time buyers onto the property ladder.
Deputy Power believes that the housing shortage is a much bigger concern than running a small scheme that could help a limited number of people.
