Members agreed this week to appoint a new aviation security regulator who will work for both Jersey and Guernsey.
The post – which will bring the Island into line with EU regulations – and the improved arrangements will cost the Island £39,000 and will be funded by the slight increase in the fees charged per passenger using the facilities at the Airport.
Independent Members also adopted a second proposition transferring the regulation of aviation security from the Economic Development department, which oversees the Airport, to the Chief Minister’s department to make it completely independent. Both moves were adopted by the House in the third reading.
