St Helier was officially twinned with Funchal, the capital of Madeira, in a ceremony at the Town Hall.
The occasion is the culmination of years of discussions between St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft and the Mayor of Funchal, Dr Miguel Albuquerque, who co-signed the charter in front of dozens of witnesses.
The twinning was also marked by the renaming of James Street as Rue de Funchal.
