Alfie, a four-month-old boxer cross, was found starving and shivering under a car in Sunshine Avenue, St Saviour, last week. He had no collar or microchip, so there is no way of knowing where he came from.

The puppy has a deformity in his front legs, but the woman caring for him – who did not want to be named – says that he is on the mend and doing very well, and may be ready to be rehomed soon. But she said that Alfie may need surgery to fix his legs and she is not sure whether the problem is down to a congenital problem or malnutrition.

‘He could hardly stand when he was found,’ she said. ‘He was so thin that you could put one hand around his waist. The poor thing hasn’t had a very good start in life, but he is fine now. He is with other dogs and is great with kids, and he will make someone a lovely pet.’
