Defendant David Dobson, who was jailed for five and a half years, claimed that he was desperate to raise cash after losing his job as an engineer in the building trade.

The 53-year-old admitted taking ‘a calculated risk’ by trying to import cocaine with a Jersey street value of £7,760. The drugs were found to have a purity of between five and six per cent.

Dobson, who had admitted being involved in importing drugs at an earlier hearing, was stopped at the Airport by Customs officers after arriving on a flight from Exeter on 28 April.
