In a letter to all Members, Colin Macleod urges them to vote in favour of Deputy Andrew Green’s amendment, which would see the adoption of the same food exemptions as apply in the UK and many jurisdictions worldwide.

Mr Macleod said this would ensure that basic food items essential to a balanced diet were not made more expensive for the whole community, including the most vulnerable.

He added that the States had the opportunity to help Islanders through the worst effects of the recession, without increasing the fiscal deficit, by voting for an amendment to the Budget.
