From Mark Tuohey.

I HAVE been following the recent spate of letters regarding young people and their choices of ways to amuse themselves and their possible dissatisfaction at the lack of places to play.

Most people know of Les Quennevais Sports Centre, the track and the beautiful sand dunes and Railway Walk bordering it. My dog and I visit this place every day, come rain or shine, to enjoy the beauties of nature. It is a wonderful way to pause for thought on a busy day and to meet friends, young and old alike.

But over the past few months, and especially since the half-term break, the track and dunes have become littered with cans, bottles (some broken – my dog almost cut itself) crisp and cigarette packets, even, embarrassingly, dog mess – having been picked up and placed in the correct bag, but then hung on a tree. Why?

Is this maybe a new sort of game for some young adults (or even older adults?) to play? Or is it just that they are too bone idle to throw rubbish in one of the many bins provided?

Last weekend there was even a half-full but discarded tin of baked beans thrown at the side of the Railway Walk. My dog really wanted to munch them, but I wouldn’t let him.
