With Islanders now estimated to spend around £111 million on alcohol every year, the police say they are doing all they can to contain the problems, including physical and sexual violence.
The number of officers out on the beat on Friday and Saturday nights, when trouble tends to peak in St Helier, has already been increased by around 50 per cent. The police say that they are containing the problems, but stress that it is outside their remit to solve them.
