When and where did you pass your test and how many times did you take it?

I had been driving tractors for my father and riding motorbikes since I was 12, so it was not surprising really that I passed my driving test on my first attempt, three weeks after my 17th birthday.

Your first car?

A Ford Escort 1300XL in canary yellow. My first tractor was a David Brown 885 with 45 horsepower, two-wheel drive – and no cab.

Your favourite car?

The Toyota Hilux with a modified jacked-up body, huge tyres, custom-painted and motor race-tuned – an incredible off-road vehicle! My favourite tractor is the John Deere 6400.

Your worst car?

A Ford Escort RS2000 which I bought second-hand from a friend. However, I never thought to check the rust level and subsequently this meant that the whole floor- pan fell out one day while I was driving. My worst tractor was a Zetor, which was very noisy and very uncomfortable.

Your current car?

A Nissan Navara pick-up truck. My tractor is a 100hp John Deere 6400.

Your dream car?

With current fuel concerns, my choice is not politically correct, but it would have to be a Hummer. My dream tractor would be a John Deere 6330, with heated seats, suspension on the front axle, on-board diagnostic engine management system, automatic gearbox, air-conditioning, climate control and a super-quiet cab. This tractor would be my ideal piece of kit, but it will take me a while to save up for it!

Favourite drives?

North and South Carolina in the United States. When I retire I would like to drive across America, and also spend three months exploring Europe.

Driving ambitions?

My ambition would be to drive a sand-dune buggy based on a VW Beetle with a Porsche motor at a designated desert venue!

Do you think you are a good driver?

Yes! I am lucky enough to have two miles of tracks and roads on our property to enjoy. Also, I really enjoy a challenge, which means that I regularly find myself in the driving seat of diggers, pay-loaders and excavators. Everything I drive, big and small, I enjoy.

What do you always carry with you on long journeys?

A pre-charged starter kit, a tyre inflation aerosol and a small tool-kit.

Who would be your preferred passenger on a long journey?

I would take my wife, Kristina, with me as we are constantly so busy we never get enough quality time together. I would have to take a GPS system with us, to avoid any potential map-reading arguments.

What makes you angry when you are driving?

Inconsiderate drivers

Have you ever been involved in a crash?

A month or so after passing my driving test I was out with a crowd of friends in the car. As I was turning into the Windmill car park a girl distracted me and I crashed into a wall, which resulted in the following six months with no wheels!

What do you listen to when you are driving?

I am chronically dyslexic and have never been able to read a book properly. About 15 years ago I discovered and fell in love with audio books. I listen to these if I am out driving on my own or Channel 103 or Radio 4.

How could Jersey’s roads be improved?

Stop roadworks in the summer months – which will make it easier for more people to come up and see me!

Do you clean your car, and if so, how often?

The car, yes and not very often. The tractor, a lot more regularly!
