TRAFFIC wardens have voted unanimously to take limited strike action in a dispute over back pay.
From next Friday the wardens will only book vehicles parked on streets that are deemed to be causing a health and safety risk.
They will not issue tickets in car parks run by their employing department, Transport and Technical Services.
The traffic wardens recently discovered that as shift workers they should have been paid for daily 30-minute meal breaks for the last 12 years, but have not been.
But Transport and Technical Services chief executive John Richardson said that any strike at this stage would breach the Employment Law and be contrary to the terms of agreement laid down by the Manual Workers Joint Council.
