Playing at the new Salta hockey facility in Argentina, the GB team had to put in a fierce defensive performance against the 2004 Olympic bronze medallists to keep the score level.

Herbert, who plays for Leicester hockey club, also featured for the GB side on Thursday night, coming on as a substitute as her team won 3-0.

But last night she was in the starting XI who faced the world ranked No 2 team in the second of five test matches.

Herbert played for England as they qualified the GB team for next year’s Olympics, a competition they failed to make in 2004, following their victory over Spain at the EuroHockey Nations Championships in Manchester in August.

This test series against Argentina is proving to be a good warm up for the 2008 event and the two sides meet again tomorrow, on Sunday and on Tuesday.
