If the picture is sold at that sum, enough money will be raised to buy essential medicines for seven villages in India for a six month period. After the drawing was given to the charity it was valued at Bonhams before going on sale at the charity’s shop in New Street. Manageress Rose Gill said they had already received an offer of £400 for it, but hoped the full value of the drawing would be realised so that as many people as possible in a Third World country could benefit from the proceeds. ‘The person who donated the drawing was fully aware they were giving Oxfam a Blampied sketch – and we are very grateful for their generosity,’ she said. At present, the sketch, entitled The Argument and depicting typical Blampied characters around a table, is on display inside the shop and bids are being taken. Miss Gill said anyone considering giving Oxfam an item of considerable worth could be assured that before putting it on sale it would be professionally valued with the aim of raising the appropriate amount.
