The newly formed Jersey Personal Injury Medicolegal Society (JPIMS) is giving an open invitation to all members of the legal profession who act on behalf of plaintiffs, together with members of the medical profession.
They also want to open up membership to professionals such as accountants, chiropractors, and those involved with the rehabilitation of the injured person.
JPIMS vice-president and English solicitor Lindsay Edwards said that in the UK the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers provided a forum for professionals wanting to improve their service to claimants, whereas until now there had been nothing similar in Jersey.
‘Jersey’s personal injury law largely relates to English law, although the UK has civil procedure rules which we don’t have,’ she said.
‘We are interested in providing lawyers and medics with a group to whom they can turn for advice on any particular issue.
The society is also putting in place a programme of training events, led by speakers from the UK as well as Island specialists.
The launch tonight starts at 5 pm at the Pomme d’Or Hotel.
