The 17-year-old striker played the final six minutes of extra time before taking and confidently scoring Bournemouth’s second penalty in a 4-3 shoot-out win following a goal-less draw.

Pitman’s father Brent said: ‘Brett phoned late last night and he was very happy.

He said he didn’t do anything spectacular or anything wrong so he was happy.

‘He put himself forward for a penalty which shows how confident he is.

‘We are all delighted his début is now out of the way; we hope he gets some more chances.

He has been playing well in the youth team, he scored four goals recently and they were all reported as good goals.

‘Brett has always had a knack of scoring goals and he seems to be hitting form again.

He’s been asked to go with the first-team squad again today because the youth do not have a match this weekend.

‘Brett said they are going swimming so he may need to take his armbands!’ With Bournemouth’s under-18s not having a game this weekend, Pitman senior, a former Muratti striker, and family are hoping Brett will remain with the first-team squad for an away match at Bradford City on Saturday and a home fixture at Dean Court on Bank Holiday Monday against Walsall.

Pitman junior, formerly of St Paul’s and First Tower and a student on the Lloyds TSB Jersey Football Association’s School of Excellence, appeared four times in Bournemouth’s first team pre-season friendlies.

The former Victoria College pupil, who is on a two-year Youth Academy registration with the south-coast club, scored in one friendly to secure Bournemouth a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile Jack Cannon, another Jerseyman who was released by Bournemouth at the end of last season, has joined Conference League South club Dorchester.
