The young Jersey star, drawn to play alongside England’s junior champion Mark Dawes in the mixed pairs, helped the 23-year-old Lancastrian to two excellent victories.
Greechan and Dawes defeated Malaysia’s Intan Kamarauzaman and Ireland’s Neil Mulholland, 10-6, 10-2, then edged home, 9-4, 7-6, against Edward Alderson from the Isle of Man and England’s Gemma Broadhurst.
Making a hesitant start in their first match, Greechan and Dawes found themselves 5-0 down after three ends, but conceded only three singles after that, and emerged as hot favourites for the title.
In their second match, they won the first set easily enough, but had to fight back from 6-3 down with two ends to play to win the second with a treble and a single.
Those wins set up a semi-final encounter with Malaysian Azwan Shuhaimi and Welsh teenager Kelly Packwood on Friday evening, while defending champions Catherine McMillan and Wayne Hogg should get through to the other semi final.
Before then, the gruelling round-robin programme for the singles, men’s and ladies’, will unfold, and Greechan opened her bid with a remarkable 15-1, 16-1 victory over Erin Roth, from Canada.
That card, showing an aggregate score of 31-1, included two fours, four trebles and four doubles, and is thought to be a record at this level, and certainly got Greechan off to a flying start.
Greechan’s Jersey team-mate Jamie MacDonald, partnered by the inexperienced Roth, slipped up in the first round of the mixed pairs, though the first set against Michelle Cooper and Afrizel Shumaihi (Azwan’s brother) could have gone either way.
Trailing by three shots with two ends left to play, Roth and MacDonald scored two singles to finish just one shot short of a tie.
Cooper and Shuhaimi went on to win, 6-5, 11-3.
But MacDonald bounced back to chalk up an impressive win over Welsh star Jonathan Tomlinson, from Port Talbot in South Wales, who has competed on the portable rink at Potters Leisure Resort.
Tomlinson broke a 4-4 deadlock to take the first set, 6-4, but MacDonald dominated the second, 10-3, before clinching victory on the sudden death third end decider in a tense tiebreak.
