In 1945 the parish celebrated the Liberation by building a replica float of the Vega which took part in the Battle of Flowers and carnivals to raise money in appreciation of the vital aid which kept Islanders from starvation in the last winter of the Occupation.

Sylvia Le Brocq decided to combine her annual fund-raising event with a reunion of the women who, as teenagers in 1945, represented the Island parishes on the float.

Mrs Le Brocq managed to contact float-builder Snow Pirouet as well as five women who still live in Jersey.

She also contacted two who live in England.

In the end Mr Pirouet, Maureen Stuckey and Margaret Mallett joined Mrs Le Brocq, with Geraldine Amy arriving too late to be included in the photograph.

Mrs Le Brocq’s coffee morning was doubly enjoyable as it raised £759.36 towards rebuilding Indonesia in the wake of the Boxing Day tsunami.
