WEB chairman Pierre Horsfall has denied allegations that board staff have put developers’ interests before those of the public.

The former Senator said that board managing director David Margason and his team were doing a brilliant job in developing a world-class waterfront, with public gains and the potential to regenerate tourism and the economy at no cost to the taxpayer.

But Senator Stuart Syvret, a long-term critic of the board, is not convinced.

He wants the States to disband WEB and take control of the waterfront.

‘I have for many years been of the opinion that WEB as a model has been a disaster and a catastrophic failure.

I have tried in the past to get WEB scrapped, and I shall certainly be trying to do the same,’ he said.

In a letter published in today’s JEP, Mr Horsfall writes that without the partnerships brokered by WEB with private investors, the waterfront will never be developed on the lines of the Waterfront 2000 framework as that would cost up to £86 million.
