The event organisers and sponsors Cherry Godfray have done a deal instead with the commercial radio stations and Channel Television.

Under the new deal, Channel 103fm will broadcast full live coverage of the final between Guernsey and Vase holders Jersey from Foote’s Lane, while Island FM in Guernsey will carry live updates.

The aim is to get Guernsey fans to turn up rather than listening at home.

Muratti organiser Darren Duquemin said: ‘Our first priority is to sellout the 5,000 plus all-seater stadium and make it the biggest Muratti crowd for many, many years.

This is the reason why we are restricting live coverage in Guernsey to updates and goal flashes on Island FM.’ Channel TV, meanwhile, will have the exclusive TV rights to the match on 2 May.

The deals ends a two decade association with the BBC, which is disappointed.

BBC Jersey’s acting editor Matthew Price said: ‘We have broadcast live coverage for more than 20 years and in Roger Bara and Brent Pilnick we have established and well known sports broadcasters.

We are very disappointed.

Mr Price said that under the BBC’s proposal there would have been live coverage of both the Muratti semi final and the ladies’ final and that the stations would have provided a public service.
